Drive

At this age Google Maps would definitely be smarter and more useful than us, and New Haven, located right on I-95 between New York and Boston, is not difficult to find at all. But still, we have prepared some quick tips for you.

From New York

If you like to drive on the left lane on highway (like me …), you don’t have to change to the right when it approaches New Haven (from New York direction) via I-95. The left two lanes naturally lead you towards I-91 Hartford direction. Follow the route and be careful to those who merge to your lane, then take Exit 3 Trumbull St after you make your way on I-91. You will be arriving in New Haven momentarily.

From Boston

There are two routes if you are from the New England area, one inland via Worcester, Hartford, and the other along the coast via New Providence (We are more familiar with the first one since it is slightly faster).

For the inland route, the three highways (if you happen to start from Boston): I-90, I-84, I-91, are roughly evenly distributed – so you might need to double check your map if staying on one for too long … The change points between these three are Exit 9 on I-90 and Hartford (Exit 57 on I-84). Then, after about 40 minutes on I-91, you will start to notice the exit number is finally down to single-digit. Of them, many can lead you to New Haven and here we suggest Exit 3 Trumbull St.

For the coastal route, you will be on I-95 for almost the entire journey until it reaches New Haven. Take the Exit 47 Downtown New Haven and it will lead you to the downtown area.

After Highways

We try not to give specific directions here (please forgive us …) since as long as you set the destination correctly, you won’t be trapped. And even if you do, we treat this as a great opportunity to wander around this lovely campus town.

Overall direction-wise, if you exit from I-91 Exit 3 Trumbull St, the destination will be on your front and left (i.e. West and South), for about 5 blocks to the West (again, it will be where you are facing) and 4 blocks to the South (i.e. your left). Of the five streets where you have to make the left turn, only Orange St, Temple St, and Prospect St (naturally leading to College St) are available since the other two are one-way in the opposite direction. We would prefer the last two as they are already part of the campus.

And if you exit from I-95 Exit 47 Downtown New Haven, the destination will be on your front and right (i.e. West and North), for about 5 and 3 blocks, respectively. We think making the right turn at York St would be the easiest to follow. Upon arrival on York St, wait for Chapel St in about 3 blocks and then turn left. Your destination will be on your right. For whatever reason if you miss this left turn – don’t feel bad – the entire campus is in front of you so just spend a few more minutes enjoying it.

Parking Options

Since our day will conclude at The Study (1157 Chapel St, New Haven), we suggest you park your car on-site, or at the Chapel/York St Garage (150 York St, New Haven), which is less than one block from the hotel. A walk from The Study to Yale Law School takes no more than ten minutes.

Parking in Yale old campus or anywhere near Yale Law School (where we are holding our ceremony) will be difficult and please keep in mind that Wall St is not open to non-university traffic which means even dropping off guests in front of Yale Law School is not permitted.

The are street parking spaces along Chapel St and the downtown New Haven area however on a Saturday midday they are very likely to be occupied already.
